Gratitude for the Privilege of Driving

November is the season of giving thanks as the year draws to a close… it’s a time to be with our families and celebrate with gratitude for the journey we took together in the past year. And given the events of 2020, it’s an overdue celebration that may still be difficult in some quarters.

The tradition of Thanksgiving began with pilgrims on the Mayflower giving thanks for the end to a rough journey, as they set their eyes for the first time on the shore of Cape Cod. With COVID19 still a daily reality and with some of our family members still highly vulnerable to disease, it’s a coordinated risk just to put the family together for a day.

On everyone’s mind this year will be how much they have to be grateful for.  From our jobs managing to reopen after work shut down, to keeping our homes for the people who’s jobs never reopened… to the ones who got sick and managed to pull through, to the ones who managed to stay healthy and safe this past year. There’s much to mourn, but much to celebrate, too.

As you give thanks for the many blessings, Rusty’s Garage would like you to think back to the shutdown this summer, back to that first drive you may have taken during the shutdown to gather supplies for your family. It was a scary time, but you made it through.

Think of how highways once jammed at rush hour were practically empty. How good it felt to be on the road again, outside of your home, in the safe environment of your own automobile, and able to move at a comfortable pace.

As a nation, we really overlook the privilege of driving until it goes away, either due to infirmary or a national emergency, like the one we’ve just been through. We should do more to be grateful for the privilege of driving, and do more to thank our cars for the load they carry-- namely, us.

At Rusty’s Garage, we’d like you to remember to show your car some love for pulling through for you during the pandemic. Look after it and bring it in for the maintenance it needs to keep running correctly. Bring it by Rusty’s Garage in Spring, Texas for an inspection, so that we can let you know what needs it has and help you maintain it for years to come. You can find us at 25143 Melda Road, Building B, in Spring, TX, 77380. We’re open from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
