When the Tornadoes Come

Welcome to February! This month has some significant highpoints, like Super Bowl LV and Valentine's Day, and at Rusty's, we hope you make the most of these days with your family and friends.

But with Spring coming, one of the issues we feel is essential to address is Tornado Season. Most people think of tornadoes as columns of high wind, but they are much more dangerous than just the concentration of gale-force wind in their appearance.

First of all, tornadoes are incredibly unpredictable. They move erratically and with their own logic. Second, tornadoes are not purely wind. They also carry particles and objects caught in their funnel, moving at incredible speeds. It's like a moveable grenade, capable of tearing you apart with its shrapnel.

Take a look at this video from Eustace, just three hours to our direct North. A tornado can suddenly cross your path. I know that many drivers would have taken the chance that the tornado would stay on their right and driven ahead straight into the funnel.

If you should find yourself caught in a situation like the one in the video, what will you do?

People have traditionally run to underpasses for shelter from high winds. Travelers Insurance warns that the wind actually picks up around these landmarks, meaning that a twister's shrapnel is even more deadly at an underpass and an underpass should be avoided.

Their advice is to stay low and buckled in, get off the highway as soon as possible, and avoid stopping under bridges and tunnels. We heartily agree. Keep yourself safe. Never play chicken with a tornado. They are too unpredictable to know,

We hope that you'll stay safe and use caution during Tornado season, and avoid gambling with a tornado! Rusty's Garage in Spring, Texas, is proud to be your garage.
